"He gains no crosses as a soldier may, No medals for the many risks he runs; He only, in his patient, puzzled way, Sticks to his guns!"

This is a dedication inscribed "A Tribute To Our War Horses," is engraved on a drinking trough made from grey granite, which was installed at the intersection of St. Kilda-road and Domain-road by  members of the Purple Cross Service of Victoria in May 1926

169000 horses left Australia and never returned either killed in action or in died in quarantine.

One of the most famous was a horse called `David` which served in the 107 Battery Regiment 1899-1902 during the Boer War, and then as a gun wheel in France. He was awarded many Army medals and honours including the Queen`s Medal, the King`s Medal and Star with bar.

Unveiled by Sir John Monash during animal week and under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of Animals. Every year wreaths are laid around the memorial by organisations.

Bloodline descendants of our famous War Horses live today in Bogong High Plains and are revered for their connection to War History and the brave War Horses who were sent overseas during the Wars and gave their lives alongside our soldiers.

In August 2022 the Andrews Labor Government shot up to 40 of those surviving descendants of War Horses. It was a massacre and will never be forgotten. Living History that ought be protected within Legislation. Those of us who care, will continue to fight for Legislation to protect our Heritage Brumbies and those who survive them in Bogong High Plains and the Eastern Alps of Victoria.

The Australian Brumby Alliance has  launched Court proceedings against Parks Victoria,  hoping to achieve a Court Order that Parks Victoria stop shooting Brumbies. The Hearing is scheduled to take place on 1 and 2 December 2022, and will be a Virtual Hearing.

There is no doubt recent shooting by Parks Victoria of Brumbies in the Alpine National Park has produced evidence that the shooting of a mob was unsupported by Standard Operating Procedures, published for the humane management of wild living horses. None of the horses were shot in the way required by Standard Operating Procedures, having taken multiple body shots, and likely causing long, drawn out and painful deaths.

A Judge will decide after a two day Trial whether or not the shooting was inhumane and cruel and whether or not Parks Victoria should continue shooting Brumbies.

Parks Victoria unilatterally decided to vary the management plan which requires rehoming Brumbies as a priority, and despite approved rehomers waiting for  Brumbies, they received news that instead Parks Victoria had decided to shoot Brumbies.

If you do not support our Heritage Brumbies being barbarically and cruelly shot, please sign this Petition. Please visit our facebook page, Like and share. We shall have a link to join the courtroom on our page on the days of the Trial.
