In 1984, FISA (Federation Internationale Societe d'Aviron) banned the use of boats with fixed seats and sliding riggers.

The rationale was that it would be too expensive for clubs and federations to adopt these types of boats.

I believe that this ban, given the availability of new technologies and materials, has become obsolete and therefore the current World Rowing Federation needs to remove this ban.
