Stop the Ban on Hemp-Derived THC That Hurts Small Businesses & Consumers

The Issue

Who This Petition Is For:

Members of Congress and Farm Bill negotiators

Recently, Congress passed changes to the Farm Bill that could be used to broadly restrict or ban hemp derived THC products like Delta-8, even though these products have been federally legal since 2018.

This issue is personal for me, as I had aggressive, life threatening cancer. During and after treatment, hemp derived CBD and THC significantly helped me cope with severe nausea, pain, anxiety, and sleep disruption at a time when everything felt overwhelming and my body was fighting to survive. I’m now seven years cancer free.

Today, I use low dose CBD and THC to help manage ADHD and anxiety as part of my overall health routine, alongside therapy, supplements, exercise, and mindful nutrition. This is not about intoxication, but about stability, functionality, and overall quality of life. A sweeping ban would remove an option that helped me survive, recover, and continue to function day to day.

While this legislation has already passed, history shows that public pressure can and does influence how laws are enforced, amended, or clarified, especially when real world harm becomes clear.

Cannabis policy has been revised in multiple states after public outcry highlighted unintended consequences for patients, small businesses, and communities.

Environmental and healthcare policies have also been amended post-passage when people refused to stay quiet. This petition is about applying that same pressure; demanding clarity, accountability, and regulation that protects people instead of punishing them.

A broad ban on hemp derived THC would not improve public safety. It would instead:

• Shut down small, community based businesses

• Harm farmers and workers who rely on hemp production

• Remove affordable alternatives many people use instead of alcohol or pharmaceuticals

• Consolidate power back into large alcohol, pharmaceutical, and corporate interests.

We are asking lawmakers to clarify and amend the Farm Bill language so legal hemp derived products are regulated responsibly, not banned outright.

Regulation protects consumers. Prohibition protects monopolies.

What we’re asking for:

• Clarify Farm Bill language around hemp derived THC

• Protect small businesses and farmers

• Prioritize regulation, not criminalization
