Mileage taxation, the process of taxing residents based on the distance they travel, presents a burden on California's working-class citizens who commute long distances for work. As California continues to grapple with economic recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, implementation of such a tax threatens to exacerbate the financial challenges faced by many Californians. Despite the intentions of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and funding transportation projects, the potential socio-economic impacts cannot be ignored (Source: Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Davis).
