The Issue

Growing up in Collinsville, IL, I've always admired the green spaces and natural wildlife that our community has to offer. The area around Reese Drive and Ramada is not just a plot of land; it is a sanctuary for numerous species and a retreat for residents like myself who cherish the serenity of nature. However, our beloved green space is under threat. The proposed 96 unit apartment complex threatens not only the wildlife, but also the quality of life we've come to cherish.

The management company responsible for this proposal has a track record that leaves much to be desired. Existing apartment complexes under their jurisdiction are poorly managed, raising concerns over how this new development will be handled. From maintenance issues to lack of amenities, current residents have continuously voiced their dissatisfaction. Expanding this management’s portfolio without addressing existing concerns seems detrimental to current and future community welfare.

Adding hundreds of new residents without proper infrastructure improvements will overwhelm our roads, strain emergency services, and reduce the quality of life for everyone who lives here. Intersections are already backed up during rush hour, and cut-through traffic has increased dramatically in our residential streets. We are not opposed to responsible growth, but it must be planned with the needs of the existing community in mind.

Moreover, the environmental impact of such a dense development cannot be overlooked. The construction will disrupt local wildlife habitats, forcing animals to relocate and potentially leading to a decrease in local biodiversity. We must consider the long-term effects on our environment, especially as our city grows.

Instead of developing the green space into more concrete, alternative solutions should be considered. Investing in the improvement of existing residential areas would be a far more sustainable approach. We urge the city officials of Collinsville to reconsider this project in favor of preserving our green spaces and protecting local wildlife habitats.

Join us in urging our city planners and local government to prioritize sustainable growth and conservation. For the sake of our community and the future generations who will call Collinsville home, please sign this petition to stop the 96 unit apartment complex on Reese Drive and Ramada. Let's preserve our city's natural beauty and habitats before it's too late.
