The Caloundra Sub Branch RSL and Services Club Inc. (Services Club) is a community club and its future is under threat. The Caloundra RSL Sub Branch (Sub Branch) want to amalgamate and take over your club. As the voting members of the Services Club, the Sub Branch executive members believe they can push forward an amalgamation without the need to consult with the Board of the Services Club and without consideration of you the member. Their intention is to sell the property and management rights to private enterprise. 

What this means for you, your club will no longer be a community club, but rather a source of profits for private investors.

The Caloundra RSL Services Club Inc. is a proud member of the Caloundra community and has a rich history of providing community support. The club currently supports STEPS Pathway College, numerous junior sports groups, women’s sport, and various veteran groups such as Young Vets. Currently, the Services Club pay rent to the Sub Branch, which exceeds their bank commitments; this funding allows them to carry out their role of veteran welfare.  The sale to Private Enterprise will see profits from the club diverted to individuals by way of management fees and rent and less for community support.

An Amalgamated Property is not good for either organisation. The Club’s Charter is to provide quality entertainment and club facilities, which requires continual investment. The Sub Branch’s Charter is Welfare and Veteran’s Support. The best way to provide both organisations the best opportunity to survive and thrive is to avoid clear conflicts of interest and operate the organisations independently with transparency, due diligence, and good corporate governance. It is not in the Sub Branch’s knowledge or skill set to run a licensed venue.
