I am a resident living in Sundridge, a small town just 10 minutes away from Burk’s Falls, and I am deeply concerned about the proposed $50+ million AI and colocation data center by Almaguin Data Inc. inside the Armour Industrial Park on Highway 520. This project, while presented as a forward-thinking tech investment, poses significant risks to our environment and the peaceful rural lifestyle cherished by residents of Burk’s Falls and Armour Township.

Data centers of this scale, even with modern cold-climate cooling solutions, consume a massive amount of water, putting considerable pressure on our local water resources. This overconsumption threatens the very ecosystems, water tables, and natural habitats that our community depends on. The potential for long-term environmental damage is alarming, and it is the community that will be left to deal with the consequences.

Moreover, the infrastructure required to support such a facility could lead to increased traffic, noise, and pollution, fundamentally changing the character of our charming rural area into a bustling industrial zone. Residents who moved to this area for a quiet and serene life may find themselves in an unrecognizable and undesirable environment.

Our close-knit community has seen what happens when large corporations overlook the wellbeing of locals in favor of profits. We cannot let our home become another example of unchecked corporate expansion, where businesses benefit at the expense of our environment and quality of life.

There are alternative locations more suited for such projects without imposing on residential neighborhoods, and technological developments could be harnessed to create a center that genuinely respects and integrates with the local ecosystem. Almaguin Data Inc. has not yet proven that it will take necessary precautions to minimize its impact on the environment and community.

We need the support of our neighbors and fellow concerned citizens to halt this project until a thorough environmental impact assessment is conducted, and the voices of local residents are heard. Our community deserves to have a say in its future and to protect the natural beauty and resources that define our home.
