Stop the allocation of HMO near schools in Shelthorpe Avenue
The Issue
As a concerned resident of Shelthorpe Avenue, I am deeply troubled by the current plans to allocate a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) directly across from a local school. It is alarming to consider that this HMO, which provides accommodation primarily to immigrants who may not be properly vetted, has a clear view of the school's playground. Given recent news reports and social media narratives about immigrants being involved in heinous acts, such as watching and preying upon young schoolgirls, there is an understandable fear among parents and locals about the safety of our children and the tranquility of our community.
Furthermore, Shelthorpe Avenue is a narrow, single-file road lacking designated parking spaces. The introduction of an HMO in this area will inevitably exacerbate traffic congestion and parking issues, potentially creating dangerous conditions for school children walking to and from the school, not to mention the daily disturbance for residents who already struggle with these logistical challenges.
To ensure the safety and well-being of our neighborhood, as well as the security of our children, we urge the local council and housing authorities to reconsider the allocation of this HMO. An alternative location away from schools should be sought to alleviate these pressing concerns.
It's crucial that the authorities understand the emotional and social impact that placing the HMO here could have. The peace of our community and the innocence of our children should not be compromised by such placements. We need to stand together to protect our locality from decisions that could introduce crime or unwanted disturbances.
