Stop the 27‑Storey Tower on Chevron Is - Pause High‑Rises Until Infrastructure Keeps Up

The issue

What’s the problem?

Chevron Island is already overwhelmed by constant high‑rise construction, increasing traffic congestion, noise, dust, and overstretched infrastructure — yet another 27‑storey tower (MCU/2026/63) now threatens to push our community beyond breaking point. Residents are struggling with the cumulative impact of multiple high‑rise approvals in a small, infrastructure‑limited neighbourhood, and it is clear that essential services, road capacity, and liveability have not kept pace with the scale of development.

With a 19‑storey tower at 18–20 Mawarra Street existing DA already approved and new soil‑testing activity underway on that site, the possibility of yet another major development in such close proximity is mind‑boggling. The pace of construction and the density of towers being approved simply do not match the capacity or character of Chevron Island.

How this affects us
Residents are already experiencing:

Constant noise, dust, vibration, and traffic disruptions from ongoing construction
Roads and intersections that are no longer safe or functional for local traffic
Overloaded parking conditions and spillover onto side streets
Pressure on water, sewerage, stormwater, and essential services
Overshadowing, loss of sunlight, and worsening wind tunnel effects from existing towers
Loss of neighbourhood character and reduced liveability
The emotional toll on our community is real. Many locals feel exhausted, unheard, and increasingly abandoned by decision‑makers who do not live here and will not endure the day‑to‑day consequences of unchecked high‑rise intensification.

What we’re asking for
We are calling on the City of Gold Coast to:

1. Reject the proposed 27‑storey tower on Chevron Island
2. Pause all further high‑rise approvals on Chevron Island until infrastructure catches up and liveability can be properly safeguarded

This is not a call to stop development entirely — it is a call for responsible, sustainable, and community‑centred planning that reflects the real‑world conditions residents are living with every day.

Why you should sign
Please add your name if you agree that:

Infrastructure must come before more high‑rise approvals
Chevron Island is reaching a critical tipping point
Development density has outpaced road, service and safety capacity
Construction impacts are affecting mental, physical, and community wellbeing
The compounding effect of multiple towers in one small area is unsustainable
Residents deserve to be heard, respected, and genuinely considered in planning decisions
Every signature strengthens the community’s voice and sends a clear message that Chevron Island cannot continue to absorb more high‑rise towers without serious consequences.

Closing message
Chevron Island deserves thoughtful, balanced development that protects the wellbeing, safety, and liveability of the people who actually live here. Please sign and share this petition to help ensure Council takes meaningful action to protect our community from further over‑intensification before infrastructure and liveability collapse beyond repair.

Together, we can demand a fair and responsible approach to future development on Chevron Island.
