I have always been passionate about preserving both human health and nature, which is why it deeply concerns me to witness Tameside Council's continued use of glyphosate throughout our borough. Recent evidence has exposed the shocking reality that glyphosate and similar chemicals are responsible for a myriad of serious health issues in humans, such as respiratory conditions and even cancer, including Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. These conditions take a massive toll not only on those directly affected but also on our already burdened healthcare system.

Moreover, the environmental impact is equally alarming. Glyphosate wreaks havoc on our local ecosystems, leading to a dramatic decline in plants, insects, aquatic life, and larger animals like bats, birds, and mammals. The UK is already facing a drastic decrease in insect populations, which are essential for our biodiversity and food chain, and the use of such chemicals only exacerbates the problem.

It is startling that despite these revelations, Tameside Council continues to employ such harmful chemicals when there are proven environmentally friendly alternatives available.
