The problem is that the law makes a biased judgment for felony convictions regardless of the nature of the offense. In the eyes of the law, a felony conviction is a felony conviction. Period. It doesn't matter whether the offense was of a violent nature or not.  If convicted, a person loses all rights to vote and,  even worse, the right to possess ANY type of weapon including non lethal weapons designed solely for the purpose of self defense! THIS IS UNJUSTIFIED!  NON- VIOLENT felony convictions should not infringe upon a person's civil and CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS! If the felony offense is NON-VIOLENT, don't take their right to protect themselves from the ones who are violent! STOP taking their rights to be heard in the polls and for their decisions to be taken into account. Take the weapons from the VIOLENT offenders since they are the ones who can't be trusted with them! Anyone who has ever been convicted of a felony is affected by that conviction FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES! We have good, honest and hard working felons who would never intentionally harm anyone or use violence against another in the absence of threat of harm to themselves and then we have VIOLENT felons who show no regard for human life or life in general.  Yet, in the eyes of the law, they are one and the same! THIS IS UNJUSTIFIED! We need the laws of the criminal justice system to enforce the laws reflecting what the name implies... criminal JUSTICE! Taking a non-violent person's right to vote or own a weapon solely based on a felony conviction is NOT criminal justice... it's jeopardizing the safety of America's citizens and it should be unlawful! Taking away an individual's right to own or possess ANY type of weapon based solely on a felony conviction alone is not only unjustified...it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
