Stop Strain to Sugarland Subdivision Infrastructure

The Issue

Cantrelle Land Development is currently seeking sketch plat approval from Lafourche Planning Commission for a Small Lot Development to adjoin Sugarland Subdivision by attaching 24 lots to Acadia Dr. starting at Magnolia St. and ending at Cedar St.   There will be no direct access to Highway 1.  This is only Phase 1 of 3.  The goal is to develop to St. Hilary's Mausoleum.  Small Lot Developments are described as "efficient and economical" and are so densely populated they require a separate recreational area.

The area's infrastructure cannot accommodate additional strain.  Our sewer system is on the verge of collapse with temporary lift stations that have been in place since last hurricane season.  Raw sewerage has been seen seeping onto our roadways.  Even one additional flushing toilet will pose potential health hazards.

To service the neighborhood and healthcare facilities, there are three streets.  Only Twin Oaks Dr. has a traffic light that allows driver's to turn left blocking access to CIS and St. Anne Hospital.  Traffic patterns will become increasingly chaotic.

In light of these pressing issues and health hazards, we call on local authorities and the developer(s) to pause and reassess.  Any development affecting Twin Oaks Subdivision, Acadia Park Subdivision, and/or Hackberry Estates Subdivision (commonly and collectively referred to as Sugarland Subdivision) must include comprehensive studies that illustrate the impacts and proposed solutions to the sewerage system, traffic patterns, surface water drainage, and property values.  We expect any and all future development to be sustainable and harmonious with our existing community.

By signing this petition, you are standing with our community to protect from unchecked land development that will directly impact the integrity of our neighborhood.
