The Issue

For years now, Phenix City has been my home—a community where I envisioned growth and development, where every corner could become a beacon of opportunity and prosperity. However, the increasing number of storage units popping up around town is not only disappointing but also detrimental to our community's potential.

Just recently, I learned that another storage facility is being constructed in the old Winn Dixie building on Highway 80, a prime location that could have been utilized for more beneficial purposes. These storage units offer no employment opportunities; they provide no significant or long-term benefits to our local economy. Instead, they occupy valuable real estate which could have housed businesses that truly serve and uplift our community.

Moreover, the density of storage units in Phenix City and its surrounding areas is overwhelming. Do we really need to continue prioritizing space for things over space for people and businesses? Phenix City deserves better.

The unnecessary proliferation of storage units is not just an eyesore; it is a misguided allocation of resources and land. Every piece of property consumed by these units is one less opportunity for our community to thrive economically and socially.

I call upon city planners, community leaders, and concerned citizens to reconsider this path. We must redirect our focus towards developments that bring actual value to our city. By investing in retail spaces, small businesses, and community centers, we can foster job creation, increase our tax base, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Join me in urging the city council to impose stricter regulations on the development of storage facilities and to prioritize projects that contribute to Phenix City’s prosperity and vibrancy. Let’s save our land for projects that matter.

Please sign this petition to show your support for a better, brighter future for Phenix City.
