The Issue

In 2016, alongside club director Ian Henderson, the Fans Council, and 200 dedicated St. Mirren supporters, I contributed to the building and financing of the 1877 Supporters Club. This establishment wasn’t just a physical structure; it represented the heart and spirit of our club's loyal fan base. A testament to the unity and passion of those who breathe life into St. Mirren FC, our supporters club is more than just a venue—it's a home for its members and supporters, built with love and dedication by the fans, for the fans.

Currently, the very essence of this fan-owned entity is under threat with membership fees planned to increase by a staggering 67% from £144 to £240 per annum making attending the club unaffordable to many supporters. St. Mirren Football Club is planning changes to the 1877 Supporters Club without the backing of its existing members or any support from those who helped create it. Such decisions undermine the foundational principles of our club, which prides itself on being fan-owned.

The current management approach can fracture the bond between the club and those who have steadfastly supported it over the years. For nine successful years, the 1877 Supporters Club has been managed by its members, fostering community, camaraderie, and inclusivity among fans. To overhaul this beloved structure without member consent is to disregard the history we’ve worked so hard to build.

These proposed changes not only threaten the autonomy of the supporters club but also the legacy and culture entrenched within our sporting community. As someone who has been intimately involved with the club’s successes and struggles, I urge St. Mirren FC to respect the wishes of its dedicated fan base.

Please help us preserve the integrity of the 1877 Supporters Club and allow its members to continue managing it as they have for nearly a decade. Sign this petition to show your support for the supporters who put their heart and soul into this club and their money especially during covid. Let the handling and future of the 1877 Supporters Club remain in the hands of those who truly care about and understand its value.

We petition the board, supporters group Smisa and their appointed board representatives to halt the plans immediately and let it remain in it's current format and current affordable fee membership level.
