Stop SSD Lessons In The Granite School District

The Issue

We, the students in the Granite School District , respectfully submit this petition to express our concerns and opposition to the proposed implementation of SSD (Social and Emotional Skills Development) lessons within the district's curriculum.

While we recognize the importance of fostering social and emotional skills among students, we believe that the current SSD curriculum may not be the most effective or suitable approach for our community. Our concerns stem from the following reasons:

Lack of Clarity: The SSD curriculum lacks transparency, and there is a significant lack of clarity regarding the specific content, goals, and intended outcomes of these lessons. Without a clear understanding, it becomes challenging for parents, teachers, and community members to assess the appropriateness of the material.

Parental Involvement: We believe that parents play a crucial role in shaping their children's social and emotional development. The current SSD curriculum appears to minimize parental involvement and input, which we find concerning. We advocate for a more collaborative approach that includes parents in the decision-making process.

Age Appropriateness: Concerns have been raised regarding the age-appropriateness of certain SSD lessons. We urge the district to conduct a thorough review of the curriculum to ensure that the content is suitable for the developmental stages of the students.

Resource Allocation: We question the allocation of resources for the implementation of SSD lessons when there may be other pressing needs within the district, such as improved infrastructure, updated learning materials, or additional support staff.

Respect for Diversity: We emphasize the importance of respecting the diverse values and beliefs within our community. The current SSD curriculum may not align with the cultural and religious values of all families within the district.

In light of these concerns, we kindly request that the Granite School District reconsider the adoption of the SSD curriculum. We propose a more inclusive and collaborative process that involves open communication with parents, teachers, and community members. This will allow for a comprehensive review and modification of the curriculum to address our collective concerns.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and hope for a resolution that prioritizes the well-being and development of our students in a manner that reflects the values of our community.

Hello we are students in a very bad place right now we are struggling with hardship in a school in the granite school district everyone in this district is affected by this because everyone has to have it every Monday. If it changes Students around the district will be happy and will not be even more sad on Mondays. If this stays the same then all students around the district will cry and hate Mondays because this SSD hurts our mental and emotional health. We need to get rid of SSD lessons because it hurts us in many ways this is why we need to get rid of SSD lessons.
