Stop sport boat fishing in back of San Diego Bay

Stop sport boat fishing in back of San Diego Bay
The Issue
As fellow stewards of the sea all of us can agree there is a fine line to fishing pressure and excessive killing…With in the past few years the fishing pressure has been immense and only more anglers are getting on the water. Our local harbors, bays and estuaries are a great place for fishing whether you’re an experienced angler or not! In our local bays we are very fortunate to have an abundance of species that have breeding populations right in our backyard! Ranging from California Halibut to the ever so elusive Short fin corvina. A perfect fishery for shore fishing, kayaking, smaller vessels or any PWC.
NOT sport boats! Our fishery is at stake and has been for sometime now, with the ever rising pressure, a fellow sport boat out of fisherman’s landing “the Dolphin” has been chumming, poaching and killing an abundance of fish in the back of San Diego bay. It’s known by any local angler that what they are doing is not right, where they’re fishing is a breeding zone, not an ocean. To put it in to perspective the dolphin is a 85 x 26 ft sport boat with a capacity of up to 60 anglers that can hold up to 4 full tanks of bait. I don’t even want to know how many scoops that is, hitting drifts across the entire back bay in 10-15ft of water every Wednesday for a “halibut derby”, talk about shooting fish in a barrel. As most of us locals enjoy our artificial game, it’s fair to say opportunities are at a loss due to the excessive bait fishing. As someone who cares for our future generations and fishery, changes need to be made or we will feel the repercussions(new regulations or even wildlife preserves). This type of sport fishing is unethical and shouldn’t be allowed to continue.
Thank you for your time and concern, please sign the petition, every voice counts!
