Driving along Marine View Drive and Norpoint Hill in Tacoma have become a daily challenge fraught with danger for everyone who travels it. We traverse this perilous stretch of road facing the reckless tendencies of drivers who race through and pass others using the median/turning lane. It's not just an inconvenience; it's a constant threat to us all. 

Both Marine View Drive and the Norpoint Hill have been plagued with numerous accidents and tragic fatalities over the years. These roads are notorious in our community for their hazards, yet nothing substantial has been done to enhance their safety. 

The statistics clearly highlight the urgent need for a solution, and we believe the installation of protective jersey barriers, roundabouts, speed humps and red light/speed cameras can significantly reduce the danger and save lives. 

Jersey barriers are designed to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic or veering off the road. In similar communities, including nearby areas, such structures have been proven effective in minimizing accidents and safeguarding pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike and we believe they would be a safe addition to specific areas of Norpoint Hill. Alternatively, roundabouts can also be a permanent solution to reduce speeds resulting in fewer accidents as well as speed humps -and are long over due on Marine View Drive. 

We urge the local authorities of the City of Tacoma, the State of Washington and the Washington State Department of Transportation to prioritize the safety of Marine View Drive and Norpoint Hill by either installing jersey barriers -specifically on the dangerous corners or install roundabouts, and or speed humps in addition to red light cameras and speed cameras along various locations on both of these dangerous roads. This crucial step not only promises to decrease risk but also emphasizes a commitment to protecting the lives of Tacoma's citizens.
