Stop Snapchat From Withholding Our Accounts.

Stop Snapchat From Withholding Our Accounts.
The Issue
Snapchat released in 2011, targeted at and used mainly by adolescents and those under 18. If you were a child during that time, you know we were not nearly as familiar with technology as many are today. We were handed an iPod touch or a Kindle fire and figured it out best we could, knowing if we didn't understand how to use them, our parents definitely wouldn't. Considering this major shift in mobile devices and children's accessibility to them, it's no surprise that one of the many apps available for download, Snapchat, wasn't very well monitored by parents, or even the company themselves. Of course, we can't blame our dear Snapchat for that... What we CAN, however, blame them for is launching an app, with the intention of being used by the guinea pig touchscreen kids of the 2010s, and continuously updating it well into the 2020s, all the while making it inaccessible to basically anyone who made their account as a child in its decade of release. Dealing with an app with such strict policies, it's physically impossible to do many things by yourself without contacting Snapchat Support. Don't worry though, because even if you do decide to contact Snapchat Support, you'll be responded to by the same exact automated message reminding you for the fourth year in a row that you can't access your own account, with your personal photos, friends, memories, because you didn't have or don't have the exact same phone number from when you were nine, regardless if you know your password and username... Makes sense, right? The Snapchat safety features have always been very clear and concise that there's not much room for flexibility when it comes to protecting your privacy and data, which is why it makes no sense to lock people out of their accounts and prevent them from changing their passwords and phone numbers to their most recent and accurate information. These passwords and usernames were made by children, they're easy to bypass, which means you're only putting your audience at an even greater risk of sensitive information being exposed by forcing us to comply with the ridiculous standards and lack of help. For such a progressive and innovative app, I can't help but feel disappointed in their lack of care for the people who essentially built them up into what they are today. Sign my petition to have Snapchat review their privacy policies, at least creating a way to reclaim your lost account and contacts that there's no hope of recovering based on the requirement of verification from outdated sources, and their current form of, "support". There's no point in this level of security if we can't even access what they're trying to protect.
