Stop SkipTheDishes from Allowing Shift-Grabber Apps That Exploit Drivers!
The Issue
SkipTheDishes drivers across Canada are being unfairly impacted by third-party "shift-grabber" apps that automate the process of claiming open shifts. These apps charge drivers for a basic function that should be free and accessible to all. While SkipTheDishes has sent out emails warning drivers that their accounts will be terminated for using third-party apps, the issue persists.
I've personally witnessed many drivers still heavily relying on these apps, and my question is: Instead of going after the drivers, why isn't SkipTheDishes taking action against the developers of these apps? It's clear that these apps are gaining access to SkipTheDishes' platform through its API (Application Programming Interface). An API is a set of rules that allows different software systems to communicate with each other. In this case, it allows third-party apps to automatically grab available shifts from SkipTheDishes without driver input.
Many drivers have been using these apps for years without facing any repercussions, which suggests that the emails SkipTheDishes has sent to drivers warning of account terminations are likely nothing more than empty threats. If these apps continue to work without any consequences for the drivers, it further highlights that SkipTheDishes is allowing these third-party apps to function.
SkipTheDishes has full control over who gets access to its API, so if these third-party apps are still able to connect, it’s because Skip is allowing it.
This ongoing issue raises concerns about whether SkipTheDishes is indirectly supporting or benefiting from the use of these apps. We demand that SkipTheDishes take real action to stop the exploitation of drivers and restore fairness to the platform.
