Stop SimpleBills from Overcharging College Students

Stop SimpleBills from Overcharging College Students
The Issue
The Cottages of San Marcos is an apartment complex that houses students attending Texas State University. Since the majority of the complex are occupied by students, SimpleBills aims to exploit their unaware minds by up-charging utilities the final two months of this year’s lease.
On June 2nd, SimpleBills sent out an email to the complex saying the final bill will be combined for the last two months of the 12-month lease. They wrote they would estimate the charge for July (the final month), so their tenants are not faced with utility payments after the lease ends. Thus, claiming a doubled estimated price to be charged for June.
On June 6th, SimpleBills issued the final utility notice, but the bill was much higher than anticipated. Students are describing it was not doubled, but quadrupled the amount they are normally faced with. To make matters worse, the bill is due on June 22nd. Giving students 16 days to pay the final payment.
Breakdown of Simplebills: Every month, Simplebills splits the total cost of utilities amongst each room in a unit. Every tenant is leased to their individual room with a private bathroom. The smallest unit is a 3x3 and the largest being a 6x6. Imagine what the grand total would be for every occupied room with the quadrupled number.
Call to Action
SimpleBills needs to give students a clear understanding of what the charges are. Utilities are public and accessible for everyone to see. SimpleBills does not disclose why this final bill is higher than previous months. This time moving forward, SimpleBills must give an appropriate amount of time for students to pay larger amounts. Two weeks is not a large enough timeframe to pay an enormous sum.
Update: I have found that apartment complexes like Dakota Ranch, and The Avenue are also experiencing similar issues. This petition is growing fast and catching attention throughout the community of San Marcos. I appreciate everyone’s support! Please continue to share with your friends and family!
