Stop sending horses to foreign slaughterhouses
The Issue
Hello My name is Shaya i am twelve years old. I love horses i started taking riding lessons when I was five . I love everything about horses grooming , riding, mucking out stalls,jumping and caring for them. The situation has worsened lately, as retired racehorses, wild horses, and those just unable to find homes are being sent to foreign slaughterhouses and kill pens.example: Drive for fun made around 200,000 in his racing career then as son as his career finished he was sent to a kill pen .Luckily John steward saved him .
Financial strain on horse owners is exacerbating this crisis. The cost of keeping a horse can be very expensive, so usually people have to sell them or send them away. . Saddled with unbearable bills, people find themselves with no option but to part with their beloved animals. Too many are sold abroad to countries where slaughter practices are anything but humane. It’s time to change the rules and offer these horses the wonderful life they deserve.
Wild horses face another horrible situation. They are being rounded up, run for miles across unforgiving terrain. And most end up weak and young foals suffering injuries, such as broken legs. Instead of experiencing the freedom they deserve, these wild horses end up in grim condition, then are sent to kill pens where their fate is sealed.
The root of this issue can be traced to policies that permit these cruel treatment practices. We need rules that prohibit the sending of horses for slaughter and that outlaw cruel treatment during round-ups. We also need policies that encourage and facilitate horse sponsorships, support equine welfare organizations, and that provide financial help to those struggling to maintain their horses. Maybe if we all help, all the wild horses roam freely as they once did. Retired racehorses would live the rest of their days with an owner who loves them .And no horses will ever be sent to a slaughterhouse. Your signature means everything .
