STOP SB 171 - Abortion Matters

STOP SB 171 - Abortion Matters
The Issue
Access to abortion care is in danger. Indiana State Senator Mike Young, R., has proposed SB 171 which essentially bans abortion medication, and potentially not just for Indiana. The bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor for physicians to prescribe or possess any kind of abortion medication in Indiana. This consequence also applies for any PERSON that possesses these medications and is not a medical professional. Additionally, this bill also proposes that these medications would also no longer be able to be sent via online ordering and shipped to people in Indiana. More details in this bill not only include removing access to abortion medication but also "Requires a woman who is pregnant as a result of rape or incest to provide to her physician an affidavit attesting to the rape or incest before the physician performs the abortion."
This bill is dangerous. It takes the medical decision making out of the hands of medical professionals. Regardless of your beliefs on abortion, regardless of your religious affiliations, there has been study after study showing the safety and efficacy of these drugs which I have linked in addition to the bill itself. Please help to keep these decisions to the medical professionals, and sign this petition to oppose this bill if you care about the safety of women.
