​​Drug addiction is not a crime. Those that struggle with addiction have underlying trauma and struggles they have not been able to cope with. Instead of placing those that struggle with addiction in a prison where they will still be struggling with their trauma, we should provide them with services. Helping people find the root cause and help find healthier ways to cope will help not only with their addiction but with many other things in life. Help in supporting the Comprehensive Recovery and Addiction Act (CARA) and laws like it as they help not only those with addiction but can help society as well. A way you can support these acts is by supporting the placement of sharps disposal containers in public locations like parks. Having these containers more accessible allows for a safer environment, instead of having the needles laying around in parks where they can be touched by children or animals they could be put away in a safe area.
