We, the undersigned, demand urgent action to stop the mass layoffs planned by Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC), which is shutting down operations in California and terminating thousands of employees, many of whom are union members and long-time workers.

This closure, effective September 1st, 2025, is not driven by financial failure—RNDC is part of a highly profitable wine and spirits industry in the state with the 4th largest global economy. RNDC instead acquired an over 100 year old company named Young’s Market and intentionally ran it into the ground. This appears to be a calculated strategy to dismantle union representation, discard long-term labor commitments, and cut costs by exploiting California’s workforce.

These layoffs come with no transparency, no democratic input, and—based on available reports—no adherence to union contracts and California labor laws.

We demand the following:

An immediate investigation by state and federal authorities into RNDC’s layoff procedures and potential labor, supplier and  union contract violations.
Public hearings to examine the impact on workers, suppliers, and the local economy.
Enforcement of union labor protections, with oversight from the California Labor Commissioner.
A halt to any restructuring until employee voices are heard and represented in the process.
Long-term protections for workers to ensure that corporate mergers do not result in mass layoffs without accountability.
This is not just about one company—it’s about setting a precedent that California will not allow corporate greed to overrule worker dignity. Let’s protect the livelihoods of thousands of families and preserve the right to organize in one of the world’s largest economies.
