Stop Ride-Hailing Drivers from Forcing Meter-Based Fares After Accepting App Bookings

The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens and daily commuters, are raising our concern about a growing and unfair practice by auto-rickshaw and cab drivers using ride-hailing apps like Ola, Uber, and similar platforms.

Many drivers are misusing these apps by accepting rides at the displayed fare, only to later cancel, call, or arrive and insist on charging a different fare based on the meter. This behavior defeats the purpose of these platforms, which are designed to provide transparency, fair pricing, and convenience for passengers.

This “double game” creates several problems:

  1. Wastes passengers’ time and causes unnecessary delays
  2. Leads to confusion and disputes over pricing
  3. Undermines trust in ride-hailing platforms
  4. Harasses users who depend on these services for daily travel

If drivers prefer to operate on meter-based fares, they should not use these apps to selectively accept rides based on pricing and then override it. This is misleading and unfair to customers.

We request the following actions:

  1. Strict penalties for drivers who accept rides but refuse to follow app-based pricing
  2. Improved monitoring and reporting systems within apps
  3. Immediate suspension for repeated violations
  4. Clear enforcement of rules ensuring drivers honor accepted fares

Passengers deserve honest, reliable, and transparent service. It is time for authorities and ride-hailing companies to take firm action against such practices.

We urge immediate attention to this issue to protect commuters and restore trust in these services.

Sign this petition to demand fair and transparent ride practices.
