STOP REZONING AND ANNEXATION - COLFAX SAYS NO!

STOP REZONING AND ANNEXATION - COLFAX SAYS NO!
The Issue
Guilford County Schools has asked the City of High Point to "satellite" annex and rezone 30+ acres in Colfax, NC that do not even border High Point. They want to change the zoning in a rural residential area to Institutional so that they can put a 900 seat K-8 School in a residential neighborhood. The two lane rural roads have a frequent accident history near the proposed bus entrance (not safe for kids!) and in no way can support traffic for a school. This will bring gridlock to the neighborhood at least twice a day, blocking neighbors in their homes for extended periods during drop off, pick up, sporting events and more. This is of special concern for our elderly neighbors who are less equipped to battle intense traffic, as well as for our children with existing medical conditions who are more likely to need care on short notice.
Guilford County Schools initially hoped to find a 60 acre parcel where they could locate the hub for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) that they sold the taxpayers when the 2020 School Bond was approved. This was to be named in honor of Katherine G Johnson and was to serve as a regional center where kids from other areas could visit and learn. Sadly, they kept the name but dropped the regional hub component, settling for a more standard school with a STEM "theme" to catch purported overflow from other areas. In essence, they are now wanting to deliver half the school on half the acreage at an almost 50% increase in cost. Colfax Says NO! It's time they go back to the drawing board.
Now is the time to act! Unbelievably, it seems that most of the decision makers are ignoring the pleas of residents, and all indications are that they intend to pass this boondoggle. Help us now by signing this petition and informing your friends and neighbors. Please contact High Point City Council, High Point Planning and Zoning Commission, and Guilford County Commissioners to tell them you do NOT approve of broken promises and scandalous spending of taxpayer money. Let them hear you! Hold them accountable!
Time is of the essence!
The FINAL High Point City Council vote will be on June 20.
