I've been personally affected by a school policy that makes going to the bathroom more complicated than it needs to be. Like many students, I've faced the embarrassing and frustrating reality that we need permission just to use the bathroom. Why must we use passes? It feels like more of a control issue than a necessary practice.

For students like myself, this isn't just an inconvenience; it's a matter of dignity and health. Some students, are experiencing kidney and bladder problems as a result of not being allowed to use the bathroom when needed. It's unfair that our bodies are being regulated by policies that ignore our basic human rights and needs.

Schools track this bathroom pass usage, supposedly for safety or accountability, but this is an intrusion into our privacy. It's unsettling to think our data on something as personal and private as using the bathroom might be stored or even exposed online.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that various reports and studies highlight the negative health impacts of restricting bathroom access, including increased risk of urinary tract infections, bladder issues, and stress. Experts agree that more flexible policies lead to a healthier and more conducive learning environment.

Prisoners have more access and freedom than us students to use the restroom! This comparison should be a wake-up call to school administrators everywhere.
