The Issue

June 2026

My sister is bedridden and relies heavily on the help of her husband and visitors who assist her day in and day out.

Part of their ability to provide care involves the use of a stair lift installed in her home. This stair lift is vital not only for her well-being but also for the essential tasks carried out by those who love and support her.   It allows her husband to carry upstairs food and medicines keeping her alive it also enables visitors to assist in creating a liveable  environment.

Unfortunately, due to current social work policies, there is a plan to remove this essential piece of equipment.

These policies, which are impersonal and ill-considered, fail to recognize the unique needs of families like ours. They are overlooked for the sake of red tape  and bureaucracy rather than common sense and compassion.

This mobility aid stair lift drastically improves the quality of life for individuals with limited movement, of which she has none hooked up to oxygen constantly.

Such equipment not only provides physical support but also emotional stability by allowing family to function more effectively.

In this specific circumstance, removing the stair lift means stripping away the independence and dignity of not just my sister, but of all who come to her aid.

Policy changes should be approached with humanity rather than a blanket enforcement that disregards personal situations.

We therefore urge the social work departments to reconsider these policies, to consult directly with affected  families, and to prioritize their day-to-day needs.

In a case of an emergency there is no doubt my sister would be trapped in her bedroom with no form of escape route.

By signing this petition, you are helping us push for a compassionate revision of current social work policies regarding the provision and retention of essential mobility equipment in homes.

if you would consider helping us ensure that the care for our loved ones remains a priority over bureaucratic procedures. Please sign and share this petition to halt the unnecessary removal of critical household equipment!

Thanking  you in advance.
