I am writing to share some of my experiences and concerns. Having lived under an Islamic regime in Iran, my community and I endured significant suffering. Women had no rights, and our personal lives, including our choices, were heavily controlled by the regime. These past experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of freedom, equality, and human rights.

Now, living in Canada, I am granted the rights and freedoms that were once foreign to me. However, witnessing radical Islamist groups here is deeply terrifying. Based on my past, I understand the potential dangers they pose not only to people like me who have escaped such regimes but to all Canadians who value liberty and peace. Radicalization in any form poses a threat to the fabric of our free society.

In light of this, I advocate for the strengthening of policies that monitor and prevent radicalization in Canada. Strengthening cooperation between community leaders, law enforcement, and policymakers is essential. Community engagement and education can provide a compassionate approach to integrate communities while also addressing extremist ideologies at their core.

According to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, there has been a documented increase in the number of individuals supporting extremist views in Canada, which is alarming. It is crucial to implement rigorous and fair policies that protect our communities while respecting the rights of all citizens.
