Stop Radiant Nuclear Waste Storage Facility from Operating in Natrona County
The Issue
Bar Nunn, Wyoming – affectionately referred to by some as "Mayberry" – is a peaceful sanctuary for its 3,000 residents, located outside the city of Casper in Natrona County. Now, our community, city and region are under threat due to a proposed nuclear facility by Radiant Nuclear, planned to be built on 135 acres just a half mile from Bar Nunn's residential neighborhood and a few short miles from the city of Casper, population of about 60,000.
A nuclear facility so close to our homes and the vibrant, clean city of Casper and area towns and neighborhoods not only poses potential health and environmental risks but is also poised to drastically lower property values in a region known for its rustic charm and appeal.
Our energy costs could skyrocket due to the increased demands from Radiant's operations, further straining family budgets with no tangible benefit to the residents, families and children of Bar Nunn, Casper, Evansville, Mills and other area towns.
This venture by Radiant Nuclear impinges on our quality of life, a quality we hold dear and chose deliberately for our family's well-being and future, and threatens the future of home values for the region - would you deliberately move to a neighborhood anywhere near a nuclear manufacturing and spent fuel storage facility?
The proposed location borders a residential neighborhood and disrupts the peaceful existence of the region's tight-knit communities. This facility introduces risks and concerns that are not conducive to the family-first atmosphere residents in this region have worked hard to cultivate.
Furthermore, it is no coincidence why a town of 3,000 was chosen over cities like Laramie (pop. 35,000), Gillette (pop. 33,000), Cheyenne (pop. 65,000) or Casper (pop. 60,000) - Bar Nunn is an easy political obstacle to overcome compared to cities with a lot more voters; Bar Nunn represents maybe 2,000 votes.
However, we have one champion in the state legislature, our Representative Bill Alleman, and who has our support and gratitude. We urge you to contact Representative Alleman and thank him for fighting for us, for Natrona County, and for Wyoming.
We call upon all other local authorities, state representatives, and all residents of Casper, Mills, Evansville, Bar Nunn and Natrona County to voice their opposition to this plan.
Help preserve our state and region's identity and future as a haven for families, and not a dumping ground for other states' unwanted corporate operations, by preventing Radiant Nuclear from constructing unwanted operations and radioactive storage in our amazing state and region. Help a small town loudly voice opposition, for all of Wyoming.
Please sign this petition to make your voice heard and protect the essence and safety of our beloved state and county. Stand with us to protect Wyoming and Natrona County from the unwanted dumping of business operations Radiant's home state prohibits. Keep Wyoming, Wyoming.
