Stop Racism at The King's Academy

Stop Racism at The King's Academy
The Issue
On November 11, 2024, a student of color at The King’s Academy (TKA) was physically and verbally assaulted by another student in an unprovoked attack. After punching the student, the attacker shouted “F*** you, F*** you, you F***ing N******. Go back to the cotton field. Your face belongs in a cotton field. N******. N******. F*** you. F*** you”. The aggression continued in the ensuing days with the aggressor organizing a group of students to call the student “snitch” for reporting the attack.
TKA does not take racism seriously, as their response to this attack clearly demonstrates. After such an egregious attack, the only consequence was a brief suspension. The only remedy offered was a gesture to discuss diversity during a school staff meeting and during multicultural week. The school has ignored the repeated pleas of the victim’s family that these remedies are not sufficient; they did not respond to their multiple emails and attempts to discuss the matter.
The TKA Student Handbook puts this event in the highest category of offense, with the consequence of expulsion. Unfortunately, all consequences are by “school decision”, which in practice means that one person makes the final decision - the Head of School.
Instead of delivering justice to the victim, the school is pushing an agenda of restoration where the desire is for “offending students to be redeemed”. A policy with good intentions that in practice puts the victim back in harm’s way and ignores the harm done to the victim.
Sign this petition to send a message to the Head of School and the School Board that racism and racial violence should be taken seriously.
