Protect Burwood: Stop Overdevelopment and Keep Our Community Safe. Burwood is more than just a place on the map; it's our cherished home, a community rich in families, heritage, and history. As residents, we take pride in the unique character of our suburb, a character that stands at risk due to plans for excessive high-rise development and the introduction of a 24/7 nightlife precinct.

We don't need overdevelopment infiltrating our quiet streets, disrupting the peace and liveability that we've come to love. These developments threaten not only our safety with increased traffic and noise but also the very essence of what makes Burwood special. The charm of Burwood lies in its suburban feel, characterised by open spaces, friendly neighbourhoods, and a deep connection to our historical landmarks that have stood the test of time.

The idea of transforming Burwood into a space reminiscent of bustling city nightlife is inconsistent with our community's values and needs. Families here seek safe streets, parks where children can play without worry, and a community where neighbours know each other. Our heritage buildings speak of a rich past, and preserving them is vital for the cultural identity and aesthetic of our area.

We call on the Burwood Council to reconsider these plans for development. Let's work together to ensure a future for Burwood that honours its past, supports its present families, and builds on the sense of community we all treasure.

Overdevelopment is not the solution. We advocate for sustainable, thoughtful growth that prioritises community wellbeing over profit.

Join us in urging the Burwood Council and Mayor to stop overdevelopment and protect our community's integrity and heritage. Sign this petition and make a stand for a safe, suburban, and community-focused Burwood.

Burwood is a proud and vibrant community — one with heritage character, young families, and elderly residents who call it home.

Right now, plans to build more high-rise towers and push for a 24/7 nightlife precinct threaten to change the very fabric of our suburb. While development can bring progress, this approach risks:

 • Overpopulation & Congestion: More towers mean more residents without adequate parking or infrastructure. Eg Think of Westfield Burwood, the amount of traffic and congestion getting in and out do the centre atm is outrageous!

 • Loss of Character & Heritage: Burwood has unique heritage areas that deserve protection, not overshadowing by concrete.

 • Safety Concerns: A 24/7 nightlife culture can bring late-night noise, alcohol-fueled violence, and safety risks for families and older residents.

 • Decline in Liveability: Burwood is a suburban hub, not a city. Families moved here for a safe, community-driven lifestyle — not to live in the middle of an entertainment district.

We call on the Mayor of Burwood and Burwood Council to:

 1. Halt further high-rise approvals that ignore community concerns.

 2. Protect and preserve heritage areas.

 3. Reconsider any push for a 24/7 nightlife precinct that jeopardises safety and liveability.

 4. Invest in family-friendly spaces, green areas, and infrastructure that support residents — not just developers.

If people want city nightlife, the city already exists. Burwood should remain a safe, family-friendly suburb where heritage and community come first.

We, the undersigned, ask Council to listen to its residents and protect the heart of Burwood for generations to come.
