Thank you so much to Griff Rhys Jones and Ryan Gander for their powerful and erudite contributions to the discussion.
“It would be a tragic mistake to wilfully destroy the wonderful and unique Ipswich Museum. The interior is an historic artefact in its own right. To dismantle the existing collection and its display would be a disservice to the story of Ipswich. And to heritage itself. It is inconceivable that a museum should want to do this to such an artefact. Surely Ipswich Museum is a just victim of bad marketing. It stands as a perfect monument to a particular historic academic view of the world. Not "right", "wrong", morally upright or suspect, it is, objectively, what it is. If the Borough needs a new venue to house a children’s interactive learning experience they should put that in a different place, with a different building. I urge the advisors on this to think again.”

“Whilst many other museums in Britain are being transformed into sterile interactive clones of one another resembling Macdonald play pits, Ipswich museum is at a pivotal point with the potential to celebrate the history of the museum. A museum of museums.
The proposal set out to modernise this historic beauty is naive and shortsighted, and requires a stronger advisory team with greater experience and vision.”
