Stop price gouging & massive fees & markups on event tickets

The Issue

As a lifelong music lover and parent, I've witnessed the joy live music can bring firsthand. But acquiring concert tickets in recent years has become a daunting, stressful, and even financially devastating experience. My own attempts to secure affordably-priced tickets for my children to see their favorite artists, like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and more, have been met with inflated fees, outrageous markups, and countless scams. From both resell sites themselves AND from individual sellers and ticket scalpers.

Buying a concert ticket through monopoly ticket providers such as Ticketmaster, or through reselling platforms like Stubhub, VividSeats, TickPick, and SeatGeek, is not a simple purchase anymore.

We're often blindsided by additional fees as high as 30%, and the opportunistic practices of ticket scalpers and bots have led to a shocking markup of prices – sometimes by a jaw-dropping 2,000%. Consumers are price-gouged to the max, with two $300 tickets costing nearly $1K in fees. Tickets with a face value of $70 sell for $1,100. TM and resell sites could EASILY put caps on how much sellers can mark up a ticket. Stop blaming everyone but the real issue: greed and profit-seekers taking advantage of fans.

This isn't a problem limited to a few unlucky fans. Millions of authentic music lovers around the world are being priced out of experiences with their favorite artists, no matter how much they've saved or how far in advance they've planned.

A simple pleasure has been turned into an exploitative marketplace, where the fans are the biggest losers. It should never cost anyone astronomical prices to enjoy live shows from their preferred artists. And it should not take MONTHS of searching, joining special groups devoted to face value tickets, and contacting countless individual sellers to secure an affordably priced ticket.

The industry has to change. More regulations need to be introduced to cap the excessive charges and prevent obscene markups. We also need to clamp down on unethical practices such as ticket scalping and the use of bots, to make buying concert tickets what it should be – fun and accessible to all.

Enough is enough. Let's bring the joy back to live music. So, join us in calling for an end to excessive ticket fees and markups. Sign this petition today, and help give music back to the fans.
