Stop President Jill Baren from Presenting Graduation Certificates to Class of 2024

Stop President Jill Baren from Presenting Graduation Certificates to Class of 2024
The Issue
This petition stems from deeply personal experiences and a desire for justice. Our college president, Jill Baren, has repeatedly shown insensitivity and disregard for the student body she is supposed to lead. She walked out on students during their time of grief at a vigil organized by the college. Her refusal to use terms like "white supremacy" and engaging in racist dialogue with students further exemplifies her lack of empathy.
Moreover, her decisions have directly impacted the welfare of faculty members. She has enforced an unjust change in parental leave policy where non-birthing parents are now only entitled to course reduction instead of a semester-long parental leave.
Furthermore, there is an alarming increase in discrimination against BIPOC students under her administration. This double standard is unacceptable and goes against our institution's values.
We believe that someone who exhibits such behavior should not be given the honor of presenting graduation certificates to the class of 2024. Instead, we propose that this responsibility be given to a trustworthy tenured faculty member who truly understands and respects our diverse student body.
Our call is simple but significant: Prevent President Jill Baren from giving out graduation certificates during the class of 2024's ceremony. We demand respect for all students, fair policies for faculty members, and an end to discriminatory practices within our institution.
