To make matters worse, they swiftly placed a lien on my car, threatening to hold it indefinitely or sell it at auction if I couldn’t come up with the exorbitant funds. This has left me in a dire situation without a means of transportation, affecting my job and daily life.

Unfortunately, my story is not unique. Across the region, countless individuals are facing similar situations, often unaware of the rights they have until it's too late. These towing companies exploit ambiguities in local regulations to charge excessive fees and impose liens shortly after towing, making it nearly impossible for vehicle owners to reclaim their property.

Taking a closer look at the statistics, a significant portion of towing complaints filed with the local authorities mention unjust fees and lack of due process in reclaiming vehicles. In fact, reports suggest that predatory towing disproportionately affects low-income individuals who are then forced into even deeper financial strain.

To address this issue, we are calling for firm legislative action. We need localized regulations that mandate clear, timely notification protocols after a vehicle is towed. Additionally, there should be a cap on the fees charged for the towing and storage of vehicles, as well as extended timeframes before a lien can be placed. These measures will protect citizens from being financially gouged and improperly hindered by towing companies that prioritize profit over ethics.
