The Issue

Our East Texas lakes are beautiful and vital parts of our community. They provide us with opportunities for recreation, support local wildlife, and help sustain our ecosystems. However, this precious resource is currently under threat from the unchecked actions of nearby industrial chicken plants.

Every day, these plants dump excessive pounds of waste, laden with harmful substances like parasites, chemicals, and more that cause high nitrogen levels  into our pristine waters. This pollution not only degrades water quality but also poses a severe risk to our local communities' health and wellbeing. We've seen an alarming spread of waterborne parasites and heard countless reports of declining fish populations, impacting both recreational fishing and local businesses.

Imagine a world where our children can't swim in the lakes, and local fishers struggle because pollution has wiped out marine life. That's not just a possibility—it's our looming future if we don't act now. We are not powerless; there is enough financial capital available to create proper waste disposal facilities and enforce stringent laws to regulate waste dumping.

Our East Texas communities deserve clean, safe, and healthy lakes, not toxic dumps jeopardizing our quality of life. By establishing better waste management practices and environmental regulations, we can protect our lakes and the unique ecosystems within them.

We are calling on local authorities, environmental agencies, and industry leaders to take decisive action. The implementation of advanced waste treatment facilities and stricter oversight of industrial activities near water bodies is essential. With your support, we can urge policymakers to prioritize the health of our lakes over industrial shortcuts.

Sign this petition to demand immediate legal reforms and investment in sustainable waste disposal solutions. Join us in preserving the beauty and biodiversity of our East Texas lakes for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference.
