Stop platforming regime-affiliated individuals at CUNY

Stop platforming regime-affiliated individuals at CUNY
The Issue
On April 14, 2026, CUNY Graduate Center is scheduled to host “The Long War on Iran” through the Center for Place, Culture and Politics. The featured speaker, Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi, is publicly identified by NIAC as affiliated with the organization.
For many Iranians, this is not just another academic event. It reflects a familiar pattern in which institutions elevate voices perceived as softening, legitimizing, or normalizing Islamic Republic narratives while dissident voices remain marginalized.
Universities shape public understanding. They decide which perspectives are dignified as expertise and which are pushed aside.
We call on CUNY to cancel this event in its current form. Conversations about Iran cannot be credible while excluding those who have resisted the regime and borne the consequences of its violence.
