I am a resident of Little Rock, AR, and like many of you, I consider the Earth my home. It distresses me to see our beautiful planet being destroyed by our own actions. One such destructive action is the dumping of plastic into our oceans. This not only harms marine life but also disrupts the balance of our ecosystem.

According to a study published in Science Advances, approximately 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enters the ocean from land each year. This is equivalent to five grocery bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world! The consequences are dire. Marine animals ingest these plastics or get entangled in them leading to injury or death.

The situation is grave and requires immediate attention. We need stricter laws against plastic dumping and more robust waste management systems that ensure plastics are recycled or disposed off properly on land before they reach our oceans.
