Babies are children, not accessories. As a society, we should be actively protecting their rights and bodily autonomy, rather than imposing aesthetic choices that they cannot understand or consent to. Piercing a baby's ears is a choice made by parents, but for what reason?

Many justify this practice by stating it's a cultural norm or it enhances a child's appearance. However, we must question: at what cost? Inflicting unnecessary pain and potential complications, such as infections, for appearance's sake is simply not justified. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, ear piercing related complications, including infections and injuries, are not uncommon and can have lasting effects.

Legislative bodies should advocate for a minimum age for cosmetic ear piercings. By setting this at the age when children start primary school, we respect a child's autonomy, allowing them to choose for themselves once they can make an informed decision.

With this petition, I urge policymakers to recognize the importance of consent and bodily autonomy in children. Establish legal guidelines to prevent non-consensual cosmetic procedures on infants and toddlers.
