Stop Pickleball at Jonas Larkspur Park

Stop Pickleball at Jonas Larkspur Park
The Issue
Pickleball is fun, but doesn't belong in our backyard.
We oppose the conversion of our 2 tennis courts at Jonas Larkspur Park into 6 pickleball courts. This decision was made without recent community input and will negatively impact nearby homeowners and park users.
Our Concerns:
Property Values Will Drop: Studies show that homes near pickleball courts can lose 10-20% of their value due to constant noise and traffic.
Loud, Repetitive Noise Harms Mental Health: The sharp “pop” sound from pickleball is much louder than tennis (averaging 70dB equivalent to a vacuum cleaner, or garbage truck beep in reverse) and occurs hundreds of times per hour, leading to stress, sleep disruption, and decreased quality of life.
Overcrowding & Parking Issues: Six pickleball courts can hold 24 players at once, bringing far more people, cars, and noise than the current tennis courts.
Minimal Community Input: Residents were not properly notified or given a chance to voice concerns before this decision was finalized. No community impact study was completed.
Ample Courts Exist: There are 13 public and 3 private facilities offering pickleball courts within a 5 mile radius of Jonas Larkspur. Why do we need more?
We Demand:
- An immediate pause on the project.
- An environmental impact report outlining the pros and cons of 6 courts on the community
- A community needs assessment & public meeting to allow community input on planning and park usage needs.
- A better solution: such as 2 shared-use courts (tennis and pickle) or a different location.
This project directly affects our homes, health, and community, and we deserve a say in it. Please sign the petition to pause pickleball installation and find a better solution.
