The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program has been an integral part of their academic journey, equipping them with essential skills and confidence to aim for college—a dream that every parent holds for their children. Meanwhile, Kickstart has instilled in them invaluable traits like discipline and self-respect, helping to shape who they are becoming, both academically and personally. These programs don’t just fill a class period; they invest in the futures of our children. As a parent, I cannot stay silent while programs that invest in our children’s futures are quietly taken away.

The Pflugerville Independent School District (ISD) is considering cutting these invaluable programs. This decision will not only impact my child but countless others who benefit from the life-changing opportunities these programs provide. Statistics have shown that students who participate in the AVID program have a higher college enrollment rate compared to their peers, while programs like Kickstart play a crucial role in developing well-rounded, disciplined young adults.

Cutting these programs would deprive our children of the chance to thrive not only academically but also personally. By removing AVID and Kickstart, Pflugerville ISD is taking away critical pathways for students to pursue higher education and to build strong character foundations.

We urge Pflugerville ISD to reconsider this decision and find alternative budget solutions that do not impair our children’s educational and personal development opportunities. Our children deserve the chance to succeed and deserve to have programs that build their future available to them.
