Stop PetSmart/PetCo from Selling Animals!

The Issue

PetSmart doesn't get their animals from ethically sourced places. The animals come from mass breeders, and sometimes illegally taken from the wild. Plus, the workers usually don't even care OR know about the critters that they are dealing with. The company only cares about money. Money, Money, Money. If you walk into one of their locations, and head to the fish, the bettas in the cups, living in their own filth, the fish in the tanks, floating dead. The little critters that need to climb, can't climb. Small rodents, such as rato os and mice need to climb, and they need space. Their cages appear to be fish tanks, and are tiny. You may think that all of the animals in a cage are friends or related. That's probably not true. They don't have their animals meet, they just put them in the cage. That leads to another problem: fights. Animals like rats need to be introduced before they are put in the same cage. As someone who has rats, and has seen the rats at PetSmart/PetCo, I was terrified with the sight I saw. Two groups of rats were in the same cage, and two of the four of them were bloody and scruffled. That's because there was no slow introduction. Also, to go along with that, the poor rats appeared to be young. As me and the person I was with went to look for someone, we learned that the rats: the first group were two months, and the second group were about three weeks old. Three weeks? They were babies. Mind you, the three-week-olds were the bloody ones. One was sick. They shouldn't have been away from their mother yet. That goes for a lot of their pets. Their animals also usually don't get socialized, so when they get bought, they're terrified. The person/people that buy this animal will have to gain the trust of it, and that's hard. Lastly, they really don't care if they're selling you a sick animal. They just want your money. When you take that pet home, it could be on its deathbed, or you could try to save it by bringing it to a specialized vet, and that would cost money, lots of money, depending on the sickness and situation. These animal's lives are at stake if things don't change. They'll end up dying there. More animals will be forced to breed, to the extent that they die too. It's cruel. Animals are dying because they are being overbred and left in pet stores. If things change, we might be able to put the mills and unethical breeders to a stop! Animals don't deserve this. They don't deserve to be overbred, taken from their wild home and crammed into a tiny glass tank, where any person could adopt any pet. No matter the experience, items for it to have a good life, and knowledge on that animal. Now is the time to act. These animals' lives are at risk. These mass breeders will grow bigger and bigger, and more animals will die for no reason. We need to act now.
