Stop petsmart from encouraging and using improper pet care!
The Issue
Hello, my fellow animal lovers.
Petsmart, one of the biggest pet store companies in the US and in Canada, promotes improper pet care and even uses it themself for the pets in their store.
This is especially true for smaller pets that are regarded as low-maintenance and easy.
An example is Hamsters.
By North American standards (which I still dont even consider suitable), hamsters should have ATLEAST 450 square inches of floor space (not including extra floors or any other cages youve attached).
Petsmart sells hamster cages MUCH smaller than that.
In addition, they own a company called Tiny Tales, which creates incredibly small hamster cages marketed towards the easiest group to market to: children. The back of Tiny Tales boxes literally look like it's some sort of pokemon card!
The hamsters in their stores also have wire/mesh wheels, which are very bad for the hamster and can cause bumble foot, and they're also just not big enough!
They do no background checks whatsoever on their customers and simply give them the pet as if its just a regular product you can get at the local Walmart.
Their employees are not taught proper pet care, and instead they encourage customers to purchase Tiny Tales cages.
They sell cotton fluff, pine shavings and cedar shavings for hamsters, all of which are extremely dangerous to hamsters!
They sell scented bedding, which is also dangerous for hamsters!
As if all that didn't prove how bad petsmart is, their old hamster care pamphlet said that hamsters were herbivores! They're omnivores!
Now, I know I only talked about hamsters here, but I feel like everything I've written here makes that unnecessary, as it proves how bad they are.
