Stop Pet Overpopulation Issues- Ban Puppy/Kitten Mills
The Issue
People working at the animal shelters are overwhelmed because of the number of animals they take in. They are heartbroken by the number of healthy, adoptable pets they are forced to euthanize due to not having space, supplies, or people to care for all the animals. With more people abandoning their pets, the number of animals being euthanized is rising. It doesn't help when a puppy or kitten is purchased from a mill and the buyer doesn't realize its health or behavior issues until it's too late. These pets often get dumped at the shelter or on the streets away from home. Funding the puppy/kitten mills by purchasing their animals is making it harder for shelters to save animals because of this.
We're already faced with the issue of pet overpopulation. If things don't change, imagine how much worse it'll be. Banning puppy/kitten mills is only a step towards improvement. If you want to adopt, go to the shelter. They have puppies, kittens, pure breeds, mixed breeds, etc. They also have had proper vet care and all expenses for spaying or neutering are covered if they have not been fixed already.
Why pay for an unhealthy pet that has lived in a cage and not been socialized when you can put that money toward a healthy, loving pet that you can rescue? Report puppy mills, ban them, put the people running them in jail, and reduce the pet population without having to kill these poor animals. If not, we'll soon be overrun by cats and dogs that are unfriendly and/or sick.
