The Issue

Residents of Perundurai have witnessed the grave environmental and health crisis caused by the SIPCOT industrial complex for the past 25 years. The pollution from this industrial zone has severely impacted air and water quality, leading to detrimental health issues for the community. It's high time for the Tamil Nadu government to take decisive action to address this toxic situation.

The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board's (TWAD) recent tests in August 2025 revealed alarming levels of pollution in the water sources around SIPCOT. This contamination poses a direct threat to the health and well-being of thousands of residents and demands immediate government intervention.

Moreover, the failure to establish the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) within the stipulated timeframe shows a shocking neglect of official responsibilities. The continuous delay exacerbates the pollution problem, further endangering public health and the environment.

The health impacts are undeniable. There has been a notable increase in respiratory diseases and other health conditions linked to industrial pollution, severely affecting vulnerable populations including children and the elderly.

We aim to gather 10,000 signatures to urge the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take immediate steps to mitigate this crisis. These steps include the implementation of rigorous regulatory measures, speeding up the CETP project, and ensuring regular monitoring of industrial emissions and effluent discharges.

For the sake of our health, our environment, and our future, we demand urgent and effective action now. Sign this petition to hold the TN government accountable and push for significant change.

Join us in this critical fight by signing this petition and helping us reach our goal. Together, we can demand the cleaner, safer environment that the people of Perundurai deserve.
