The Issue

Working at the University of Utah's Research Park has always come with certain benefits, one of which is free parking. As employees who opted to work at Research Park instead of the main hospital campus, free parking was a significant factor that improved both convenience and affordability. Sadly, this benefit is now being taken away, with the introduction of parking fees for all employees.

This change not only imposes an unexpected financial burden but also undermines the very reasons many of us chose to work at Research Park. Free parking was a simple yet crucial advantage that contributed to our decision and satisfaction as employees. Having to now pay for something that has been a norm for so long feels unfair and disappointing.

While recognizing the need for revenue and budget adjustments, placing the financial weight on employees, who are already facing various cost-of-living challenges, is not the right approach. We urge the decision-makers at the University to consider alternative methods of generating funds or to subsidize parking costs for employees.

Let's preserve the culture and benefits that make working at Research Park unique and enjoyable. If you believe that imposing parking fees is unjust, I invite you to join me in urging the University of Utah to reverse this decision. Sign this petition to have your voice heard, and let's stand together in advocating for fair treatment and maintaining a key benefit of our work environment.
