Stop Paid Parking at Randwick Beaches & Streets

The Issue:

Randwick City Council is planning to install parking meters across our beaches and surrounding suburbs.

This isn’t just about parking — it’s about protecting our community, our lifestyle, and access to our public spaces.

Once meters go in, there are no guarantees:

No clear rules
No fixed pricing
No certainty on resident permits
And no protection from future increases
Once they’re installed, they can change anything, anytime.

Why This Matters
This plan will hit our community hard.

Families, grandparents, and visitors will be forced to pay just to spend time together — at our homes and at our beaches.

Households limited to just one permit
Friends and family forced to pay or stay away
Low-income families pushed out of public spaces
At the same time, Council claims this is to fund beach maintenance — despite residents already paying through taxes.

This is double-charging locals for something we already fund.

The Real Impact
If this goes ahead:

Local businesses will suffer
Visitors will stop coming
Parking costs will continue to rise
Our beaches will become less accessible and less inclusive
We risk losing the relaxed, welcoming character that makes Randwick special.

Our Message to Council
We call on Mayor Dylan Parker and Randwick City Council to:

Scrap plans for parking meters
Engage genuinely with the community
Find fairer funding solutions that don’t penalise locals
Our beaches should remain free, accessible, and for everyone.
