Stop Oxfordshire council causing traffic chaos to your stretch of Radley Road
Stop Oxfordshire council causing traffic chaos to your stretch of Radley Road
The Issue
You may have noticed an increase in parked cars and traffic issues down Radley Road recently, especially during school drop off.
This has been caused by parking restriction imposed by the council on Radley Road opposite Our Lady’s School.
The council claim that this 80m stretch of road was causing a 21% delay in bus journey times (that’s an average delay of 8 mins – clearly impossible). The council have since admitted that this evidence is incorrect, as confirmed by the bus company. However, they have still pushed ahead with the restrictions.
This action, that has no positive impacts, has caused:
Traffic chaos further down Radley Road posing a safety risk to school children and other pedestrians
Inconvenience and safety issues for local traffic (there have already been two crashes on Radley Road opposite Our Lady’s as cars now speed down that stretch without the traffic calming influence of parked cars).
Loneliness and isolation of local elderly residents as no-one can now easily visit
Issues for parishioners at the local church who now have to park at Waitrose and walk up the hill to attend church.
The council and local government are aware of resident concerns, the lack of evidence supporting any positive impacts, and the negative impacts of this action, but have chosen to ignore these arguments.
Feel free to contact Tim Greenaway (local councillor responsible for the action) <Tom.Greenaway@Oxfordshire.gov.uk>, or Layla Moran (local MP) <layla.moran.mp@parliament.uk> if you would like to add you personal comments/concerns.
