Borough Council is holding a public hearing and vote on Aug 18th on Ordinance 03-2025. This proposed ordinance strips away community protections and allows developers to build multi-family housing "by right" on four nonconforming sites within the Borough.

What This Ordinance Allows

• Dense housing at dangerous intersections - creating serious traffic safety hazards at three of the four sites (Chester Rd and Yale; Chester Rd and Fairview)
• Buildings that ignore neighborhood standards - narrow setbacks unlike every other residential property
• 75% impervious lot coverage - restricting green space and contributing to flooding

What We Demand Instead

A "Conditional Use" process that ensures:

• Public review and community input for each individual site
• Development scaled appropriately for our neighborhood
• Strict safety standards at dangerous corners
• Protection of green space and neighborhood character

The Bottom Line

We're not against multi-family development - we're against reckless development that puts developer profits over community safety and character.

Borough Council works for us. Let them know Swarthmore deserves responsible development that enhances our community, not destroys it.
